If you’re going to visit us and want some info about Rocks and Wheels, you’ve reached the right page. Whether you’ll be starting a new adventure here, staying over, or stopping by for a shorter spell, there’s no end of things to do in this neck of the woods.

We’re here for early birds and late risers alike. We stay open from morning to 10pm at night, seven days a week, with the pump track and bouldering wall available until closing time.

You’ll find us in the town of Dalbeattie, within Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland. We’re less than 100 miles by road from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and under 40 miles from the border with England. Dalbeattie Forest – with its 7stanes trail – is across the road from our centre, Galloway Forest Park starts just over 10 miles west, while the stunning coast of the Solway Firth lies less than five miles to the south.

We take accessibility seriously at Rocks and Wheels. The pump track is suitable for all types of wheels – including skateboards and scooters. And everything’s on ground level in our buildings, including a bedroom with a wet room and wheelchair space. We also offer disabled parking (access from Southwick Road) and are home to one of only eight official Changing Places Toilet facilities in Dumfries and Galloway. CPTs are larger, accessible toilets with specialised equipment such as hoists, curtains and adult-sized changing benches.

You’ll find our café in Rocks and Wheels’ main building, the Mucklehoose, where you can choose from a range of delicious meals, snacks and beverages. Its welcoming, airy space flows into a sizeable refectory area, which provides plenty of further seating. The viewing area makes it a great place to catch sight of climbers tackling The Wa’ – our awesome indoor bouldering wall.

Looking for a children’s party with a difference? Welcome to Rocks and Wheels, where birthdays become full-on adventures.

Dumfries and Galloway is one of Scotland’s most breathtaking and under-explored regions. Luckily, Rocks and Wheels is situated in the thick of its natural wonders. By staying with us, you can use our activity centre as a launchpad for everything this delightful corner of Scotland has to offer.

How many miles do you think you can manage? From the town’s own Golden Hedgehog trail to the local Plantain Loch walks and beyond, this area is full of fantastic paths and tracks. Scotland is renowned for its outstanding walking and benefits from the right to roam — meaning you can explore almost any land responsibly and freely. Take on the challenge of nearby hills Criffel and Screel for rewarding views across the region.

You may have heard of the 7stanes – seven mountain bike centres sited across the south of Scotland. Well, Dalbeattie is home to one of them, with its Heart Cleft Stane found up on nearby Moyle Hill. Even locals find it a challenge to track down — so can you find the elusive Heart Stane?
